Hi, I'm Ethan Graham 👋🏻

I'm a theatre-maker and information professional (read: wannabe librarian) born, raised, and educated in Knoxville, TN.

My primary focus at the moment is to advance as a director & actor steward. I'm a founding member of First Take Co., a theatre company and arts incubator bringing multi-hyphenate artists together to explore virtuosic collaboration.

As an actor, I've worked with companies across the US, including Boise Contemporary Theatre, Great River Shakespeare Festival, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, and the Clarence Brown Theatre. Across all of my productions, I consider myself first and foremost a theatrical world builder. I strive to develop lush, experiential, atmospheric spaces the actors and audience inhabit together, blurring the lines between spectator and spectacle.

Each piece is caught in the tension between maximalist vision and minimalist production, distilling broad concepts into the barest essentials for clear storytelling. Musicality is a major factor in my work - whether in the literal use of actor-musicians and singers, the use of harmony and dissonance in stage action, or the dovetailing of "suites" where transitions between scenes and characters don't halt the action, but rather progress the story forward.
